1. Ethnology Museum

Address: Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Taman Budaya, 93400 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

In my humble opinion, this is one of the best museum in Kuching. They have a mini cinema to show the beliefs of two major ethnics in Sarawak. The stories were really cool! They way they present information using few high-technology gadgets may increase your interest in knowing more. You should go and find it out. The interior design is modernized although the exterior looked historical.

Entrance Fee: None.

2. Sarawak State Museum

Address: Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Taman Budaya, 93400 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

Sarawak State Museum is the oldest museum in Borneo. The interior design remains classic and without any air-conditioner. Please be prepared to sweat few seconds after you enter until you leave the building. They had traditional house modals and Shell exhibition on petroleum industry in Sarawak. There are too many information you can get over here. Besides that, no one is allowed to take photos inside this museum (so we had few photos outside).

Comparing to Sabah State Museum, I prefer Sabah State Museum where I feel comfortable (not sweaty and sticky) and read all the information provided. At the same time, Sabah State Museum has clean washroom which is free of charge! Nevertheless, Sabah State Museum does collect entrance fee but Sarawak State Museum does not. Please do not hesitate to donate some money for the government to keep their museums tho. ❤

3. Natural History Museum

Address: Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Taman Budaya, 93400 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

There is nothing much over there. It looked big and you must be estimating that it was going to be a nice museum, but the truth is just opposite of what you can think of it. It is air conditioned but you barely get any new information over there.

Entrance Fee: None.

4. Textile Museum

Address: 5, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

It’s located just opposite of the main post office in Kuching. The post office can be one of your favorite places to take photos. Sadly, my boyfriend does not like/know how to take nice photos, so I do not have any photo at that place! Back to the topic, the textile museum is a little creepy for me. They used too much of human modals to show traditional weaving, especially in a dimmer room.

Entrance Fee: None.

5. The Cat Museum

Address: Bangunan DBKU, Bukit Siol, Jalan Semariang, Petra Jaya, 93050 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The place where you can buy souvenirs for your friends and family. If you love cats, you definitely will love this museum as they have plenty of collections and information about cat.

6. Fort Margherita and Brooke Gallery

Address: Petra Jaya, 93050 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

It’s another amazing museum in Kuching! You can learn about the Brooke history in Sarawak and there are numerous locations, inside and outside the building, which can be great places to take pictures!

In short, enjoy reading the materials in every museum and take pictures as much as you can ’cause you may not want to visit Kuching again. Okay, maybe if you do, you might want to go back for food instead of visiting the museums again. Anyway, I had a great time staying in Kuching for four days three nights. I wish you all could have a pleasant visit to Kuching too!

Stay tuned.
